It’s March and I am still chasing rainbows. I think I’ve found the gold this time hidden discretely under the stairs in an Hermes pink and emerald green scarf. Me-thinks I will need every penny of this Irish nugget to support Fashion Attorney Mariessa Terrell (In case you have not heard, she’s running for Chair of the DC Fashion Commission). As her campaign manager, I have heretofore pledged my commitment to clarify the record. Though the main proponents of the DC Fashion Commission project a wonderful sense of style, the Commission itself is so much more than fluff. Mayor Bloomberg of NYC realized early that Fashion means big big money for municipalities.
Likewise, the DC Fashion Commission is a legitimate tool for economic development in the District. Not only will it help to re-capture the millions of dollars DC residents spend shopping in neighboring jurisdictions but it will help to position DC as a leader in fashion policy, legislation and protection of fashion goods through the use of trademarks, patents and copyrights. Timing is everything. Who needs Leprechaun luck when you have vintage Halston and Chanel pumps for the campaign trail and beyond?
