“The Lord is my Shepherd; He gives me everything I need."
That truth alone should calm my nerves right away. So why—tell me why—do I still find myself getting tight-jawed when people don’t treat me the way I expect? You know the feeling. A family member “borrows” money with no intention of returning it. A friend calls yet again, needing help, even after you whisper, Darling, I’m stretched thin this month. And there I am, fuming, clutching my imaginary ledger as if the overflow of Heaven depends on somebody paying me back. If God truly supplies all my needs, why am I so bothered when someone doesn’t return what I gave—or even acknowledge the sacrifice I made? Here’s the gentle truth: God promised to take care of us—fully, completely, extravagantly. That is the only balance sheet that matters. After all, Jesus said, “Love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great.” — Luke 6:35 We can give freely—our time, our resources, our love—because the real Rewarder sees every act of kindness and every quiet sacrifice. When we help others, we aren’t losing. We’re planting. So as we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, unclench your hands, darling. Release every old debt, every disappointment, every “you still owe me.” Forgive. Let it go. God is the great equalizer, the One who settles accounts far better than we ever could. Aren’t we blessed to serve a God who takes care of His own? He won’t let you down. It’s a promise, darling. 💜
